How much does a handyman cost in Ajman?
Much of Ajman’s handyman supply drives in from Sharjah, so what you are quoted tends to be a Sharjah rate with the journey folded in. Getting several jobs into one visit is worth more here than anywhere else on this list.
The hourly rate is what you pay when the job is a list rather than a single task — a few shelves, a door that binds, a curtain rail, the three things you have been meaning to sort since you moved in. It is the cheapest way to buy small work and the most expensive way to buy one small job, because almost every provider charges a minimum.

UAE price references for planning a job in Ajman
| Job | AED |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out charge 79–200 AED Bestimate publishes 79–130 for the minimum or first hour; Rockhill now headlines a flat AED 200 call-out. UAE Quick charges none at all and quotes the job instead — worth asking which model you are being offered before comparing two prices. | 79–200 |
| One hour, general handyman work 75–180 AED The published band across Dubai providers. Where you land depends on the trade and the hour of the day. | 75–180 |
| Half a day 300–650 AED Cheaper per hour than single visits. If you have a list, book the list. | 300–650 |
| A full day 550–1,200 AED The upper end is a full crew day rather than one person. | 550–1,200 |
| Per hour, licensed electrical or plumbing work 150–350 AED A different rate because it is a different qualification, not because the hour is longer. | 150–350 |
| Emergency or out-of-hours +100–250 AED Added to the standard rate, in dirhams rather than as a percentage. | +100–250 |

What moves the price in Ajman
The cheapest of the five for most jobs. A good part of the supply drives over from Sharjah, so what you are quoted often reflects a Sharjah pro’s rate plus the trip.
The newer towers have copied Dubai’s contractor-NOC habit; most of the older buildings have not, and the watchman lets the pro up. Worth asking anyway, because a wasted trip gets billed as a call-out.
Who has to approve the work
EtihadWE — Etihad Water and Electricity. EtihadWE replaced FEWA in 2020 and now supplies Ajman along with the rest of the northern emirates. Older paperwork and half the internet still say FEWA; it is the same authority, and it is the one whose approval matters for anything meter-side.
Homes and access in Ajman
A lot of long-let apartments at the affordable end — the Corniche towers, the Emirates City blocks — alongside older low-rise stock. Many tenants commute to Sharjah or Dubai, which makes evening and weekend appointments the norm rather than the exception.
Questions people ask
Why is there a minimum charge for a ten-minute job?
Because the ten minutes is not what you are buying. The pro spends the better part of an hour getting to you, parking, getting into the building and back out again, and the minimum is what covers that. It is why batching four small jobs into one visit costs far less than four visits.
Should I pay by the hour or for the job?
Ask for a price for the job when you know exactly what the job is — a tap replaced, a wardrobe built. Pay by the hour when you have a list, or when nobody can tell what is wrong until they open it up. Hourly with no cap on an unclear job is the combination that produces an argument at the end.
Do I pay for materials separately?
Almost always, and the pro should say so up front. Small consumables are usually absorbed; anything bought for your job — a mixer, a fitting, a light — is charged on top, and you are entitled to see what it cost.
Is the quoted rate inclusive of VAT?
Not always, and it is worth one question before you agree. VAT in the UAE is 5%, and a registered business has to add it. A price list that does not say either way is usually quoting the figure before it.
