Find an AC technician for your home

An AC request is easiest to price when it names the type of system, the number of units and what is wrong. Say whether the unit is a split, window or ducted system, add a photograph of the indoor unit and its label, and describe the symptom.

Availability varies by city and the distance each pro chooses to cover. Pros send their own offers. You pay for the job by card through HandyMan, as set out in the Terms.

What is happening with your AC?

Choose the closest situation and describe what you can observe. Do not open the unit or its electrical panel to prepare the request; say what you do not know.

Routine service or cleaning

Give the number of units, their type and the rooms they are in, and say when they were last serviced if you know. Ask whether the offer is a filter clean or a deep clean of the coils and drain, and how long the visit takes per unit.

The AC runs but does not cool

Name the unit and room, say whether it blows warm air, cools weakly or stops after a while, and when it started. Mention any error code on the display and whether other units in the home cool normally.

Water is leaking from the indoor unit

Say where the water appears, how much, and whether it is reaching a wall, ceiling or electrical equipment. Switch the unit off if water is near anything electrical, and add a photograph taken from a safe distance.

You want a unit replaced or added

Give the room size, the current unit if there is one, and the model or capacity you are considering. Say whether there is an existing outdoor-unit position, drain and power point, and ask what building approval the installation needs.

Switch the unit off when there is a burning smell, smoke, sparking or water near electrical parts. Refrigerant handling, gas top-ups and new electrical connections belong with a qualified technician. In buildings with central or district cooling, the system may be maintained by building management or the cooling provider — ask them first.

What to put in the request

The same written scope gives every pro the same job to price and makes their offers easier to compare.

  1. 1 Say how many units there are, their type and which rooms they serve.
  2. 2 Photograph the indoor unit and the label with its model and capacity.
  3. 3 Describe the symptom, when it started and any error code on the display.
  4. 4 Ask whether the offer includes parts, refrigerant and a return visit if needed.

UAE

AC technicians in the UAE

Many apartments in the UAE use central or district cooling, where the indoor fan coil is the tenant's and the chilled-water plant is the building's. Split and window units are maintained by the occupant or the landlord, depending on the tenancy contract, so check who is responsible before booking a repair.

Questions people ask

How often should a split AC be serviced in the UAE?

Heavy use and dust mean many households clean filters every few weeks in summer and book a full service at least once or twice a year. Ask the technician what they recommend for your units and how you use them.

Is a gas top-up part of a normal service?

Not usually. Low refrigerant points to a leak that should be found and repaired. Ask the technician to explain any refrigerant work and price it separately in the offer.

My building has central cooling. Who fixes it?

The chilled-water supply belongs to the building or the cooling provider. The fan coil and thermostat inside the apartment may be the tenant's or the landlord's responsibility; check the tenancy contract and ask building management first.

What should an AC offer include?

What is cleaned or checked on each unit, parts and refrigerant if any, the charge per unit, and what happens if the visit finds a different fault. Ask whether a diagnosis fee is credited if you go ahead with the repair.
