How much does appliance repair cost in Dubai?
Dubai repair prices are published both with and without the 5% VAT and under three different call-out policies, so two quotes for the same pump can differ by the fee and the tax before they differ by the part.
An appliance that has stopped working tells you almost nothing about what it will cost, because “it won’t drain” can be a clogged filter, a failed pump or a dead control board — a hundred-dirham job, a few-hundred-dirham job, and a question of whether to buy a new machine. The number that matters is the diagnosis, and the first thing to find out is whether you pay for it twice.

What moves the price in Dubai
Dubai is the reference market: nearly every published price list in the UAE is a Dubai list, which is why the ranges below are quoted the way they are. Marina, Downtown and JLT sit at the top of them — parking and lift access cost the pro time before the work starts.
Towers are the complication. Building management usually wants an NOC or a work permit for the contractor before anyone is let upstairs, some require it a day ahead, and a few hold a refundable deposit against damage to the lifts. Ask your building what it needs when you agree the job, not when the pro is at the barrier.
Who has to approve the work
DEWA — Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. Anything that touches the incoming supply — the distribution board, a new circuit, meter-side work — has to be done by a DEWA-registered contractor. Replacing a socket, a switch or a light fitting on an existing circuit does not, and that is where most handyman electrical work sits.
Homes and access in Dubai
Most of Dubai rents rather than owns, and most of it lives in towers held by management companies. Tenancies turn over on an annual cycle, so the same snag list — a dripping mixer, a socket that stopped working, a wardrobe to rebuild — arrives in waves every summer.
Questions people ask
Will I pay the call-out fee on top of the repair?
It depends on the provider, and Dubai providers publish all three versions: no fee, a fee credited against the repair if you go ahead, and a fee you pay either way. Ask which one before the technician comes, not after the machine is open.
My machine is still under the manufacturer’s warranty. Who should I call?
The brand’s service line first. Ask them whether a repair by an independent technician affects the warranty before anyone else opens the machine — a DIY attempt can void it. Have the model number and purchase date ready.
Someone offered to regas my fridge. Is that the repair?
Not on its own. A sealed fridge system does not consume gas, so a fridge that is low has a leak, and a refill without finding it is a few months of cold and then the same bill again. Ask whether leak tracing is included and which refrigerant is going in.
Can an appliance technician fix my gas cooker?
Gas work in Dubai is for a licensed gas engineer, and some buildings do not allow gas appliances at all. This guide covers electric ovens and cookers. For a gas cooker, ask your building or gas supplier who is approved to work on it — and if you smell gas, turn the supply off before calling anyone.
When is it cheaper to buy a new one?
When the fault is the expensive part — a compressor, a motor, a control board — on an appliance near the end of its life. One Dubai provider puts the line for an oven at AED 600–700 on a machine over ten years old; for a dishwasher, price a new mid-range unit (around AED 1,500–3,500) before approving a board.
